• Chapman Clips Athenas in Overtime

    On Wednesday evening, the Chapman Panthers broke a scoreless game in the 96th minute with a golden goal off the foot of Shelby Brown to defeat the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas 1-0. The Panthers and Athenas split their two matches this season by identical 1-0 scores. The Athenas took down Chapman at home on Sept. 23.
  • Athenas and Regals Draw for Second Time

    For the second time this season, 90 minutes was not enough to decide a winner between the Regals and the Athenas on the pitch. Saturday night's tilt at Cal Lutheran was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and after two scoreless overtime periods, CMS and the Regals played to their second draw of the season.

    Wednesday night featured the second installment of the women’s soccer Sixth Street rivalry game. The Sagehens from Pomona-Pitzer took the short walk across the street to square off with the Athenas in a match that would end in a 0-0 draw after 110 minutes.
  • Athenas and Leopards Battle to Stalemate on Pritzlaff Field

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and La Verne women’s soccer teams battled to a 0-0 draw after 110 minutes on Saturday night. The Athenas and Leopards each had chances late in the contest with the Leopards actually finding the back of the net at the end of regulation. The goal however, would not count as it crossed the goal-line after the horn sounded for the end of regulation.
  • Osler's 20-Yarder Sends Athenas Past Bulldogs

    It took the Athenas a rocket from 20 yards out by Wren Osler (CMC) to edge out the University of Redlands with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday night. In an evenly contested match, the two teams held each other scoreless for majority of the game, but the game took an explosive turn starting in the 70th minute as the two teams combined for three goals in an eight minute span.
  • Overtime Penalty Kick Pushes Athenas Past Poets

    Ninety minutes was not enough to decide a winner in Saturday morning's women's soccer match between the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas and the Whittier Poets. However, just nine minutes into the first overtime period the Athenas were fouled in the box and Sarah Malott (CMC) put through the ensuing penalty kick to give CMS the 1-0 victory.

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team made a first-half goal by Rhiann Holman (CMC) stand-up for the 1-0 victory over Chapman University on Saturday night. The Athenas outshot the Panthers 19-12 in the match, but had to withstand numerous late chances by the visitors to earn their first SCIAC victory of the season.

    Tonight the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s and men’s soccer teams take the field against Cal Lutheran and Redlands, respectively. In addition to supporting the Stags and the Athenas on the pitch tonight the team is asking you to help support them in a special cause in raising funds for Grassroot Soccer.

  • Athenas Halted in Sixth Street Battle

    On Saturday night the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team made the short trip across the street to take on the No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Pomona’s campus. The Athenas fell by a 4-1 final, but battled in the second-half, outshooting the Sagehens 8-1 over the final 45 minutes.
  • Five decades of greatness represented in the 2017 CMS Hall of Fame class

    A tremendous group of five Athenas and Stags are being inducted into the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Alumni Association Athletics Hall of Fame this year. The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Claremont McKenna College’s Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum.
  • Second-Half Flurry Favors La Verne in SCIAC Tilt

    All three goals in Wednesday’s contest between the La Verne Leopards and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas were scored in a 10-minute span in the middle of the second-half. The Athenas found the back of the net once, but their effort fell just short in a 2-1 decision for La Verne in the SCIAC opener for both teams.

    On a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team scored four second-half goals en route to a 5-1 victory over the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. The Athenas got on the board first with a goal in the eighth minute off the foot of Sydney Smith (CMC), but Santa Cruz tied the match in the 26th minute.

    CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team is just over a week away from opening the 2017 season. The Athenas will jump right into the fire with a match against the No. 3 University of Chicago next Friday at 5:00 p.m. on Pritzlaff Field to open the season. CMS will complete their opening weekend with a match against University of Puget Sound on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m.

    After 13 seasons at the helm of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team, Keri Sanchez has decided to move on to pursue a coaching opportunity at the University of Texas. During her tenure, the Athenas developed into a perennial contender for the SCIAC title and earned five berths to the NCAA Tournament. At Texas, Sanchez will assist her former teammate from the University of North Carolina, Angela Kelly.

  • Cassell's goal enough to beat then-undefeated Lutes

    On Saturday afternoon, senior Emily Cassell (CMC) scored her only goal of her senior year, and it may have been one of the most important goals in Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women soccer’s history. With Cassell’s lone goal, the Athenas (17-5-1) won 1-0 to hand Pacific Lutheran University (16-1-4) their first loss of the season and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
