• SCIAC Announces 2017-18 Fall Preseason Rankings

  • CMS bids farewell to Keri Sanchez

    After 13 seasons at the helm of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team, Keri Sanchez has decided to move on to pursue a coaching opportunity at the University of Texas. During her tenure, the Athenas developed into a perennial contender for the SCIAC title and earned five berths to the NCAA Tournament. At Texas, Sanchez will assist her former teammate from the University of North Carolina, Angela Kelly.

    Players on the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s soccer team made up one third of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s Scholar All-West Region Team. Seniors Amy Johnson (CMC) and Katelyn Faust (CMC) were joined by junior Jacey Coniff (HMC) to represent CMS and the SCIAC on the 2016 Team.

    On Saturday afternoon, senior Emily Cassell (CMC) scored her only goal of her senior year, and it may have been one of the most important goals in Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women soccer’s history. With Cassell’s lone goal, the Athenas (17-5-1) won 1-0 to hand Pacific Lutheran University (16-1-4) their first loss of the season and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

  • Challenges await in Athenas’ hunt for SCIAC tourney title

    The Athenas took second place in the SCIAC, falling behind No. 21 Pomona-Pitzer (14-1-2, 12-0-2), and will face third-place Cal Lutheran (12-4-4, 6-4-4) in the opening round game. Both semifinal matchups will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 2. CMS hosts Cal Lu at 7 p.m. while PP hosts Chapman at 4 p.m. across the street. The winners of the two semifinal matchups will meet at the highest remaining seed’s field for the final on Saturday, Nov. 5 to determine the automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament.
