    Cassell's goal enough to beat then-undefeated Lutes On Saturday afternoon, senior Emily Cassell (CMC) scored her only goal of her senior year, and it may have been one of the most important goals in Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women soccer’s history. With Cassell’s lone goal, the Athenas (17-5-1) won 1-0 to hand Pacific Lutheran University (16-1-4) their first loss of the season and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Both semifinal matchups will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 2. CMS hosts Cal Lu at 7 p.m. while PP hosts Chapman at 4 p.m. across the street. The Athenas (4-4-0, 2-1-0) were in control of the match and outshot the Tigers 16 to 4, but were frustrated with their finish. It wasn’t until the 77th minute when junior Ellen Berkley (CMC) managed to score the game-winning goal with a well-placed header, her second of the season.
