Rain a big factor in Athena's San Diego matches

The CMS Athenas Tennis Team drove down to San Diego, looking to compete againstPoint Loma Nazarene (NAIA) and UCSD Tritons (DII). Although the Athenas wereready, the weather did not cooperate. They were not able to compete against Point Lomadue to heavy rains which hit the southland.

On Saturday, the Athenas began their matches with UC San Diego Tritons after an hourrain delay. The teams were able to complete all the doubles matches, before the matchwas called during the singles matches.

The Athenas led 2-1 in doubles, with solid wins by CMS’ #1 doubles team Crystal Lim (Fr. – Orange, CA) and Kristin Lim (So. – Honolulu, HI) winning 8-5. CMS’ #2 doubles team Chloe Dobbert (Fr. – Walnut Creek, CA) and Jaclyn Smrecek (So. – Irvine,CA) also won easily 8-2 against the Tritons. CMS #3 doubles team Jessie Huang (Fr.– Temple City, CA) and Victoria Santoro (Fr. – East Lyme, CT) fought hard in theirdoubles match, but came up short with an 8-6 loss. In the singles, the Athenas lead in allof the 6 singles matches. #1 Kristin Lim, #3 Chloe Dobbert, and #4 Jaclyn Smrecek allwon the first sets of their matches. #2 Crystal Lim and #5 Jessie Huang were both up inthe first sets of their singles matches. And #6 Hannah Kornfeld (Sr. – Larkspur, CA) wasfighting hard in a competitive match at 4-4.

The Athenas will play the Tritons again sometime in April and play their match versusPoint Loma on the same day as the Stags-Point Loma mens match on May 5th. This weekend, the Athenas will take on Caltech on Friday at 2pm, La Verne at 10am on Saturday, followed by a 2pm match against 28th ranked Brandeis. All 3 matches will beplayed at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
