OJAI, Calif. – Several members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team competed in singles and doubles competition at the 114th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament from April 24-27. The CMS doubles pair of sophomore Caroline Ward and freshman Katie Kuosman won the Women's Independent College Doubles Tournament while in singles, CMS had three of the four representatives in the semifinals of the Women's Independent College Singles Tournament.
In the finals of the doubles tournament, top-seeded Ward and Kuosman had their toughest test of the weekend as they defeated fourth-seeded Jeanette Losaria and Laina Matsuda from La Verne 6-2,4-6,10-2 in match tiebreak. In addition to Ward and Kuosman winning the tournament, junior Sarah Kukino and senior Crystal Lim made the round of 16 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Sabrina Gutierrez and Denise Poltavski.
CMS also had a great deal of success in the Women's Independent College Singles Tournament as Lim, Kuosman and Ward all made the singles semifinals. In one semifinal match, Lim and Kuosman faced off with Lim winning 6-1, 6-2 while in the other semifinal match, third-seeded Ward lost 6-4, 6-0 to top-seeded Lauren Stratman. Then in the championship match, Stratman defeated Lim 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.
