CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team won their first two matches of the season on Friday afternoon at the Pacific Coast Classic in Ducey Gymnasium. CMS beat the Whitworth Pirates 3-0 in the first game and then defeated the Benedictine Eagles 3-0 in the second match.
Game 1: CMS 3, Whitworth 0 (25-17, 25-22, 30-28)
The Athenas took the first two sets of the match and then came from behind to rally for a win in the third set. Senior OH Jalana White had a team-high 16 kills while DS Whitney Santos led the Pirates in digs with 19. Junior OH Regina Mullen led the Athenas with 14 kills and junior libero Megan Coleman had 26 digs.
Game 2: CMS 3, Benedictine 0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-23)
In the second match of the day the Athenas won in three straight games again. Senior MH Nicole Adams had nine kills while junior S Abby Sattler recorded seven digs. Sophomore OH Audrey Breitwieser led the Athenas with 13 kills while Megan Coleman recorded a team high of 16 digs.
The Athenas play Willamette (12:15 pm) and Millikin (4:30 pm) on Saturday in the last day of the Pacific Coast Classic.
