Win Over No. 9 Puget Sound Highlights Perfect Posada Royale Showing For CMS

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – For the second-straight year, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team won all four of its matches at the annual Posada Royale Invitational hosted by Cal Lutheran. A 3-0 win over preseason No. 9 Puget Sound on Saturday in the tournament finale highlighted the tournament for CMS which ran on Sept. 6-7. The Athenas also registered wins over George Fox (3-0), Santa Cruz (3-2) and Texas-Dallas (3-0) to run their record to 8-0 on the season, the team's best start since at least 2006. In eight matches so far this season, CMS has won 24 of its 26 games played.

CMS 3, George Fox 0 (Friday – 25-14, 25-15, 25-17)
Freshman OH Nicole Kerkhof had a match-high 15 kills to go along with five digs. Sophomore OH Audrey Breitwieser had a near double-double with 13 kills and eight digs while senior S Hilary Bruegl led the team with 39 assists and junior L Megan Coleman had 19 digs. Karlee Jo Sampson and Erin Campbell each had seven kills and five digs to lead George Fox.

CMS and George Fox faced off at the Posada Royale Invitation in 2012 as CMS earned a 3-2 win.

CMS 3, Santa Cruz 2 (Friday – 21-25, 25-19, 26-24, 24-26, 15-12)
In the Athenas closest match of the season, the team came back from a 1-0 deficit to earn the win after dropping the first set 25-21 to Santa Cruz. The Athenas came back to narrowly win the second and third sets to take a 2-1 lead before Santa Cruz forced the match into a fifth set.

Kerkhof had a double-double with 22 kills and 21 digs while Breitwieser had 18 kills and seven digs. Coleman led the Athenas with a season-high 40 digs.

CMS 3, Texas-Dallas 0 (Saturday – 25-17, 25-22, 25-19)
Kerkhof added another double-double with 17 kills and 17 digs. Breitwieser had 14 kills and seven digs while Coleman had 20 digs.

CMS 3, Puget Sound 0
The most impressive win of the weekend came in the team's last match as CMS defeated No. 9 Puget Sound 3-0. Puget Sound is coming off a 22-6 campaign in 2012 in which they made it all the way to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals.

Kerkhof finished off the weekend with her third double-double of the tournament with 16 kills and 16 digs. Junior OH Regina Mullen and Breitwieser also added double-figure kill totals for the Athenas with 13 and 11, respectively.

Jackie Harvey led Puget Sound with 11 kills and 10 digs.
