Athenas Fall To Division I 49ers

Coming off a win the previous afternoon against Connecticut College the young Athenas jumped back into the pool Saturday to face off with Division I foe Long Beach State.  The Athenas came out fast drawing an exclusion and scoring a goal a minute into the game.  The excitement was short lived as the 49ers frustrated the Athenas attack for the next 14 minutes of the game forcing turnovers and bad shots, leading to easy goals on the other end.  Alex Toohey ended the drought with :50 left in the first half, but the damage had be done and the 49ers had a comfortable 7-2 halftime lead. The second half was more of the same as the strong defense of the 49ers held the Athenas in check and lead to transition goals.  The final score was 14-6.  The Athenas were lead in scoring by Alex Toohey (So.) who scored 3 goals on the game and Alyssa Filippelli (So.), Candace Filippelli (So.) and Rose Koper (Fr.) each added one goal.  In the cage for the Athenas Taylor Basso (So.) had a very good game recording 13 saves in the losing effort.

The Athenas are now 8-9 on the season and will be facing another Division I foe in Brown University Wednesday at 4 pm at Axelrood Pool.
