CLAREMONT, Calif. – In its last non-conference match before SCIAC play begins, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team lost 12-6 to Marist College on Wednesday morning at Axelrood Pool. The Athenas don't have much time to think about the loss however, as they open SCIAC play at Chapman at 5 p.m., less than five hours after the completion of the team's game against Marist. Against Marist (15-7), CMS fell into a 3-0 first quarter deficit with 1:38 remaining in the quarter as three different players scored for Marist. With four seconds remaining in the first quarter, CMS got on the board with a goal by junior driver Alex Toohey. The teams traded goals to start the second quarter as junior utility Candace Filippelli narrowed Marist's lead to 4-2 at the 5:36 mark of the second quarter and CMS could not get any closer. Marist closed out the second quarter on a 2-0 run to take a 6-2 lead at halftime as five different players scored for Marist in the first half, led by two goals from Robyn Crabtree.
