Toohey's Goal Gives CMS Overtime Win, Third Place At SCIAC Championships

PASADENA, Calif. - Junior driver Alex Toohey scored with 48 seconds left in the first sudden victory OT period to give the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team a 9-8 come from behind win over Occidental on Sunday afternoon in the third place game at the SCIAC Women's Water Polo Championships at Pasadena City College.
The Athenas were down 7-4 to start the fourth period but outscored the Tigers 3-0 to force the extra sessions. The game tying goal came with 1:46 left in period when Toohey put the ball in the back of the cage.
Each team found the back of the cage during the first overtime session.
Junior utility Candace Filippelli and Toohey's hat trick led all scorers for the Athenas. Naena Fujiyama had three scores to lead Occidental.
