The Athenas lose home opener to Hartwick

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team lost their home opener to Hartwick College 11-7. Although the Athenas battled throughout the game, the Hawks created an early lead for themselves that the Athenas could not recover from.

Hartwick College was clearly in control after the first period when they took a 4-2 lead led by junior driver Brittany Tait, who scored 2 goals. The Athenas two goals were scored by senior driver Rose Koper and sophomore utility Brittany Arneson.

CMS equaled the scoring of Hartwick in the second period to end the half down 6-4.  However, in the third and fourth periods the Hawks outscored the Athenas 5-3 to finish the game ahead 11-7.

The Athenas were led by sophomore Ellen Perfect who scored three goals.  The Athenas are now 0-3.

Hartwick was led by freshman Katie McKenty who had a game high of five goals. 

The Athenas next game is Friday, Feb. 13 at Cal State Northridge at 3 p.m.
