  • Gaffney, Kiessling, and Aldrete Named All-SCIAC

    On Thursday morning the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) released their All-Conference team. Among the student-athletes listed were a trio of Athenas. Jessica Gaffney (CMC) and Roxy Kiessling (CMC) were named First Team while sophomore Aracelia Aldrete (CMC) was named Second Team.
  • Athenas Begin SCIAC Tourney Friday at Cal Lutheran

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team ended the 2018 regular season with a thrilling, 11-10 victory over Cal Lutheran last Saturday. The CMS vs. Cal Lutheran match-up will be replayed this Friday in the SCIAC Semifinals as the No. 3 Athenas head on the road to take on the No. 2 Regals at 4:00 p.m. The winner of the CMS-Cal Lutheran match will square off with the winner of the other SCIAC Semifinal, No. 4 Whittier at No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer, in the SCIAC Final on Sunday. The Athenas and Regals split their first two meetings this season. As mentioned, CMS earned an 11-10 victory last weekend and Cal Lutheran picked-up an 8-4 win earlier in the year on Mar. 24 in Axelrood Pool.
  • Kiessling Nets Seven as Athenas Edge Regals

    With the third seed in the SCIAC Tournament already solidified the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team wrapped up the regular season with a trip to Cal Lutheran on Saturday morning. The Athenas earned a hard-fought 11-10 victory against the Regals, thanks in large part to seven goals from senior Roxy Kiessling (CMC). After being held scoreless in the first period, Kiessling scored three goals in the second period and netted a pair of goals in both the third and fourth to finish the day with seven goals on nine shots.
  • Athenas Take Down Redlands on Senior Day

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team celebrated their seniors on Saturday prior to their final home game of the season. Following the festivities, the Athenas used a big four-goal first quarter to push them past the visiting Redlands Bulldogs in a 10-7 victory. Jessica Gaffney (CMC) led the Athenas offensively with three goals and fellow senior Roxy Kiessling (CMC) had two.
  • Early Lead Propels Athenas Past Tigers on the Road

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team breezed past the Occidental College Tigers in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, earning their 16th victory of the season by a score of 9-1. The Athenas scored seven times in the first half as part of an 8-0 run. They held the Tigers to just one goal in the contest.
  • CMS Defeats Leopards behind Gaffney's Four Goals

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team earned their eighth conference win of the season on Saturday after edging La Verne 11-7. The Athenas scored three goals in each of the final three quarters and were led by a strong four-goal performance from Jessica Gaffney (CMC). Aracelia Aldrete (CMC), Roxy Kiessling (CMC), and Amelia Ayala (CMC) each scored twice.
  • Strong Second Half Pushes Sagehens Past Athenas

    After an evenly played first half, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team fell to the SCIAC leaders in Pomona-Pitzer 11-5. Tied 2-2 at the end of the first half, the Sagehens scored nine in the second half to come away with their eighth SCIAC win of the season.
  • Women's Water Polo Pastes Caltech in 17-3 Victory

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team cruised to a 17-3 victory over the Caltech Beavers on Saturday morning. Nine different Athenas scored in the victory with Jessica Gaffney (CMC), Anna Fry (HMC), and Chandlyr Denaro (CMC) leading the offense for CMS by each scoring at least three goals. The Athenas outshot the Beavers 28-16 in the victory.
  • Gaffney's Five Goals Leads CMS to Victory

    The Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' women's water polo earned their sixth SCIAC win of the season with an 11-7 victory over the Whittier Poets on Wednesday night. After falling in an early hole, CMS came from behind in the second quarter and were able to maintain the lead for the rest of the game. Jessica Gaffney (CMC) led the charge with five goals in the game.
  • Hawks and Bears, Too Strong for CMS in Axelrood Pool

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team dropped both of their matches on Saturday against stiff competition. In the morning match, the Athenas fell to No. 13 Hartwick College 16-7, before dropping their second game of the day to Brown University by an 11-7 final. Amelia Ayala (CMC), Roxy Kiessling (CMC), and Aracelia Aldrete (CMC) each registered three goals on the day to lead the Athenas' offense.
  • Regals Top Athenas in Low-Scoring SCIAC Match

    In a low-scoring, defensive battle the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team fell to the Cal Lutheran Regals by an 8-4 final in Axelrood Pool on Saturday morning. Four different Athenas scored in the game for CMS and Cal Lu’s Victoria Meek led all scorers with three goals in the game.
  • Athenas Pick Up Win Over Chapman in Midweek SCIAC Matchup

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team picked up their 12th win of the season on Wednesday night after defeating the Chapman University Panthers by a final of 9-4. The Athenas held the Panthers to just one goal in the first half and Aracelia Aldrete (CMC) led the offense with four goals. With the win, CMS improves their record to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in SCIAC play. As mentioned, Aldrete led the scoring efforts with four goals. Kiessling dished out two assists and Ayala had a team-leading three steals. Chandlyr Denaro (CMC) made seven saves in goal for CMS.
  • Athenas Jump on Bulldogs and Scots Early, Earn Saturday Sweep

    Claire Baxter (CMC) and Roxy Kiessling (CMC) each scored three goals in a 9-4 victory for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team over the Redlands Bulldogs on Saturday morning. The 9-4 victory over the Bulldogs was just the start of a doubleheader sweep for the Athenas, CMS completed their sweep with a 12-7 victory over Macalester later in the afternoon. Baxter led the Athenas on the day with six goals across the two games.
  • Baxter Leads Athenas to Pair of Victories on Thursday

    The Athenas scored 10 goals in the first-half en route to a runaway, 13-3 victory over the Connecticut College women's water polo team in Axelrood Pool on Thursday afternoon. The Athenas followed up their afternoon victory with a 13-6 win over the Occidental Tigers in the night-cap of their doubleheader. Claire Baxter (CMC) scored four goals in each game for a total of eight on the day to lead CMS to a pair of victories.
  • Late Goals Push Athenas Past Leopards in Axelrood Pool

    La Verne’s Jassmine Kezman scored three-straight goals to begin the fourth period to tie Saturday’s women’s water polo match at 7-7. The Athenas battled back in the final minutes of play to score three unanswered goals to earn a 10-7 victory over the Leopards. Roxy Kiessling (CMC), Claire Baxter (CMC), and Arcelia Aldrete (CMC) scored in the final 2:19 of the game to help the Athenas pull out the SCIAC victory. With the victory, the Athenas improve to 2-1 in the SCIAC and will next be in action on Thursday when they host Connecticut College at 12:00 p.m. and Occidental at 7:00 p.m.
  • Athenas Drop SCIAC Contest to Sagehens

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team dropped their SCIAC contest on Wednesday night, falling 11-5 to rival Pomona-Pitzer. With the loss, CMS sits at 6-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Five different Athenas scored in the game and Jessica Gaffney (CMC) dished out two assists. Aracelia Aldrete (CMC) had a goal and an assist.
  • Athenas Beat the Buzzer to Cap Off Strong Convergence Weekend

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team split the final day of the 2018 Convergence Tournament, falling to UC San Diego 16-4 before taking down Cal State Monterey Bay 6-5 with a last second goal from Amelia Ayala (CMC). The victory moves the Athenas to 6-4 overall on the season and caps off an exciting 3-1 weekend for CMS. The Athenas earned one-goal victories over Somona St., Villanova, and Cal State Monterey Bay. CMS is next in action on Wednesday when they travel across the street to take on the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at 7:00 p.m. in their second SCIAC game of the season.
  • No Raining on this Parade! Athenas Top Nova and Somona State

    On a cool and rainy Day One of the 2018 Convergence Tournament, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team came away with a pair of exhilarating one-goal victories. First, the Athenas defeated Sonoma State 7-6 on a buzzer beating goal from Jessica Gaffney (CMC) before topping Villanova 12-11 in overtime. Roxy Kiessling (CMC) led the Athenas with five goals on the day and Chandlyr Denaro (CMC) made 13 saves to earn the win in both contests.

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team took care of the Caltech Beavers 12-2. CMS scored on their first seven possessions en route to a 7-1 lead at the end of first period. Anna Fry (HMC) led the Athenas with three goals in the first-half while Jessica Gaffney (CMC) and Haley Gibbs (SC) matched her with three total goals in the comfortable victory.

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team split a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday. After falling to the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds 13-10 in their morning match, the Athenas scored a thrilling 6-5 victory over the Azusa Pacific Cougars in the afternoon. Roxy Kiessling (CMC) scored with three seconds remaining in the game to break a 5-5 tie and give the Athenas the victory. Jessica Gaffney led the charge for CMS with three goals in the game.
  • Athenas Dominate Lady Reds in Home Opener

    On Saturday afternoon the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo opened their 2018 home schedule with a meeting against the Carthage Lady Reds. The Athenas earned the 14-8 victory for their first win of the season. The Athenas took an 8-4 lead at the half thanks to a six combined goals from Aracelia Aldrete (CMC) and Jessica Gaffney (CMC) in the opening 16 minutes. CMS continued their strong play into the second-half and cruised to the 14-8 win.
  • Tough Opponents Welcome Athenas Into 2018 Season

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team began the 2018 season with a doubleheader against Loyola Marymount and Azusa Pacific on Saturday. The Athenas fell to both Loyola Marymount and Azusa Pacific by identical 11-5 scores. Against Loyola Marymount, Aracelia Aldrete (CMC) and Jessica Gaffney (CMC) each scored two goals to lead the Athenas' offense. In the second match of the day against Azusa Pacific, Amelia Ayala (CMC) chipped in two goals and Chandlyr Denaro (CMC) finished the day with 15 saves.
  • Athenas Prepared for 2018 Water Polo Campaign

    The 2018 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo season is quickly approaching with the first matches of the season less than a week away when the Athenas travel to Riverside, Calif. to take on Loyola Marymount and Azusa Pacific on Jan. 27. CMS will then take a week off before hosting their first game of the season against Carthage on Feb. 3 at 1:00 p.m. in Axelrood Pool.
