Distance Squads Shine At SCIAC Championships

The distance team had an outstanding showing at the SCIAC Championships with four champions and 22 scorers in the four men's and women's distance events.  In a very competitive track conference, the distance group played a major role in the Athenas' second straight SCIAC Championship scoring 72 of the team's 164 points while the Stags scored 62 of the team's 136 points in the 800, 1500, steeplechase and 5000.

Four of CMS' nine SCIAC champions came out of the distance group including Kelly Garton in the 800 (2:15.76), Bennett Naden [pictured left] in the 1500 (4:01.33) and Breanna Deutsch (17:26.61) and Rafer Dannenhauer [pictured right] (14:56.14) in the 5000.

The distance squad scored 20 or more points in half of the distance events including 20 [1-3-4] in the women's 800, 20 [2-3-4-5] in the women's 1500 , 24 [1-2-4-5] in the women's 5000 and 26 [1-2-3-5] in the men's 1500.  They also scored 14 points in both the men's steeple [2-3] and men's 5000 [1-4].

Six athletes scored in two events including Garton (1-800, 2-1500), Naden (1-1500, 3-steeple), Dannenhauer (1-5000, 2-steeple), Jennifer Tavé (2-5000, 4-1500, Laura Sauvage (3-1500, 4-5000) and Sara Mostatabi (5-1500, 5-5000).
