Kaylee Anderson is the epitome of perseverance. She and a teammate once ran two miles home while carrying a Jack Russell Terrier named Princessa. This was after they’d run alongside the lost puppy for a few miles. They had to run crouched over because the dog’s leash was actually a string of ribbon no longer than a foot. The Scripps freshman from South Pasadena High School also ran 48 laps around the track in second grade—about six miles—while participating in a fundraiser. Her neighbor must have overlooked Kaylee’s budding talent, having casually pledged two dollars per lap. Kaylee’s favorite post-race meal is a cold glass of milk and “Daddy’s Tacos”, which as one might guess are tacos that her dad makes. She claims they are incredibly delicious.
