Back in the day, there were gradations of domination. You could own at Pokémon cards—long live the 90’s—or tetherball or even, if you were really cool, handball. But what really mattered was winning the mile. There was always that kid who somehow finished five minutes ahead of you and filled your tiny third grade heart with burning fury and pure awe. Kent was that kid. “I started running in third grade,” he shares, “because I was kind of nerdy and I needed to be good at something.” He’s been running ever since. Kent’s favorite run is Spooner Summit in Tahoe.
