Rachel Dahl comes from the Chicago of the West. In Kennewick, Washington, the winds blow fierce. “One time my friend and I were running,” Rachel remembers, “and the wind literally picked her up off the track.” Rachel was born in Mount Vernon, Washington, and attended Southridge High School. The Scripps freshman reflects that running has taught her that strength can be found in one’s weakest moments. “All you have to do is dig a little deeper,” she says. Her hero is Scott Jurek, a vegan ultra runner. Rachel is very good at working with telescopes. When not running she can be found fiddling with lenses in the Pomona observatory or knitting. She is currently making a beautiful scarf the color of fresh snow.
