Rae Brookshire defines the perfect run as one with tall trees, soft surfaces, and a cool breeze. “Long-slow-distances with life stories are swell,” she adds. Some of Rae’s earlies memories are being pushed in a baby jogger during her mom’s long runs. When she got older, her mom said she could either bike alongside her or try to run and keep up. Rae chose the latter. Running has taught her that there’s no reason to give anything less than your best, that getting lost just means more mileage, and that a bagel with cream cheese is the best post-race meal. Grete Waitz is her hero. The recent graduate from Phillips Exeter Academy hopes to stay strong and injury-free this season, as well as to finish her races with a good kick.
