Led by four freshmen, Meghan Fuelling, Bob Owlett, Leah Snider and Nicki Maslan, 60 members of the CMS cross country team organized this past week for a canned food drive in the north part of Claremont. The team spread out over the streets north of Baseline Road between Indian Hill Blvd. and Mills Ave. knocking on doors for the purpose of collecting canned and dry goods for Inland Valley Hope Partners. According to the charity the team collected over 500 pounds of food for the needy.
The CMS athletic teams have put an emphasis on community service with the food drive being the first of many opportunities for the athletes within the athletic department to 'give back' to the community. Doing much of the organizational work was Frannie Hemmelgarn, a senior Economics-Accounting major with a leadership sequence at CMC.
The cross country teams and the athletic department would like to thank the people of Claremont who choose to help others for their generous donations.
