Five Stags named to All-SCIAC football team

PASADENA, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced its All-Conference football teams on Monday, Dec. 2 and five Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football players were named second team All-Conference. Two players from the offensive side of the ball for CMS and three from the defensive side were named All-Conference.

The five Stag football players named All-Conference include senior wide receiver Kris Otterholt, sophomore offensive lineman Joshua Boren, junior defensive lineman Alex Chang, junior linebacker Max Winsberg and sophomore defensive back James Ingram.

Otterholt led the Stags in receptions (55), touchdowns (5) and receiving yards and was fourth in the SCIAC in receiving yards per game (69.4) and fifth in receiving touchdowns. Boren, a left tackle for the Stags, started eight of nine games during the season.

On the defensive side of the ball, Winsberg finished second on the team in tackles (76) and tackles per game (8.4) and led the team in interceptions (2) and fumble recoveries (2). The junior finished fifth in the conference in tackles per game. Chang led the conference in sacks (5) and finished with 50 total tackles on the season. Ingram finished third on the team in tackles (62) and led the team in pass breakups (4).

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established in 1915. The league is currently comprised of nine athletic programs from private colleges and universities in Southern California: California Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, University of La Verne, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, University of Redlands, and Whittier College. The conference recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly and annual basis.

CMS finished its 2013 season with a 3-6 record which included a 29-23 win over rival Pomona-Pitzer on Homecoming.
