ANAHEIM HILLS, Calif. – Just four strokes separated six Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golfers on the leaderboard as CMS teamed up and finished in second place (587) at the two-round, SCIAC No. 2 Tournament at Anaheim Hills Golf Club. Cal Lutheran finished in first (583). Cal Lu led by one stroke after the first round and extended their lead by three strokes in the second round. La Verne (589), Redlands (590), Chapman (593), Occidental (593) and Pomona-Pitzer (600) rounded out the field.

Through two SCIAC Tournaments and four rounds, CMS is the leader heading into the three-round SCIAC Championships and has a combined team total of 1,214. Eight strokes behind CMS is Cal Lutheran (1,222), followed by Redlands (1,225).

For the first time this spring, sophomore Jackson Zepf (CMC) paced the Stags and earned a top-10 finish. Zepf tied for eighth place with three other golfers at 7-over par (147) and his best round was a 1-over, 71 in the first round. His 71 happened to be tied for the second-lowest round of the event. Several Stags had low rounds of 73. Alec Spencer from La Verne and Griffin Tso from Chapman tied for first place at 1-over par on the par 70 course.

One stroke behind Zepf was freshman Alex Wrenn (CMC) who tied for 12th (148). Sophomore Matt Shuman (CMC) and senior Kethan Reddy (CMC) tied for 14th (149), sophomore Jonathan Shaw (CMC) tied for 17th (150) and sophomore Johnny Brandt (CMC) tied for 22nd (151). A total of 44 golfers placed in the field.

Looming on the schedule for the Stags are the SCIAC Championships, April 24-26 at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont. The Stags are chasing after the program's 11th SCIAC championship and first since 2014.
