  • SWIM Across The Sound Relay Team From CMS Raises $7,500 For Cancer Patients

    A group of five Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimmers, all of whom are Claremont McKenna College students, raised $7,500 for cancer patients and their families at the 26th Annual St. Vincent’s Medical Foundation Swim Across the Sound Marathon in early August.

    Sophomore diver James Stevick made his 2013 NCAA Championships debut on the second day of the Division III NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships and finished as the national runner-up. As a team, the Stags moved up two spots from 12th to 10th with 65 points after two days of competition.

    After the first day of competition at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s swimming & diving team sits in 12th place in the 26-team field with 12 points. Along the way, CMS schools records were set in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay.
  • Men’s Swimming & Diving NCAA Championships Preview

    With all the success that the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s swimming & diving team has had within the conference, 15 years had gone by since the last time the team sent 10 or more participants to the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. That streak came to end this season as 10 CMS participants – nine swimmers, one diver – have qualified for the Championships which run from March 20-23 at the Conroe Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas. This is the highest total of participants the Stags have sent to the Championships since 2011 when eight qualified.

    The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced Tuesday that Claremont-Mudd-Scripps senior swimmer Blake Weber has been named the SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week for Feb. 18-24.

    With the SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships in the rear view mirror, the conference has released its 2013 All-SCIAC awards for men’s and women’s swimming and diving and 28 swimmers (14 Athenas and 14 Stags) earned the award. In addition, senior Blake Weber was named SCIAC Athlete of the Year on the men’s side.

    The 2013 SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships opened with the diving preliminaries over the weekend at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center. One varsity record was set, while all five CMS divers put themselves in position to score points in the championships.

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags and Athenas swept the University of Redlands in the season’s dual meet finale on Saturday, Feb. 2. At Redlands’ home pool, the Athenas topped the Bulldogs 148 to 95, while the Stags beat Redlands 185 to 58.
  • Both Athenas and Stags Get Win Over Pomona-Pitzer In Final Home Meet

    In its final home meet of the season on Senior Day, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming and diving teams both earned victories over the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Axelrood Pool. The Athenas narrowly defeated the Sagehens 152-146 while the Stags came away with a 240-47 win.

    On a postcard perfect day, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming & diving team hosted Chapman University and Occidental College in SCIAC action on Saturday, Jan. 19. The Stags beat Occidental 185 to 45 and Chapman 193 to 30, while the Athenas topped the Tigers 160 to 77 and the Panthers 192 to 49.

    For the second consecutive week a member of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming & diving team has been named SCIAC Athlete of the Week. Sophomore men’s swimmer Cameron Whiting (CMC) has been selected as the conference’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 7-13, 2013, the conference announced Tuesday.

    CMS played host to California Baptist University in the annual "Training Camp Splash" distance meet on Friday, January 11. The meet featured an unusual slate of events, including 500 yard relays and 300 yard stroke events. The Stags and Athenas each earned team victories.
  • CMS Returns to Action With Sweep Over La Verne

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps swimming & diving team won 26 of 32 events to sweep the University of LaVerne in SCIAC dual meet action on Saturday, January 5, in its first meet in over a month. The Athenas won 214 to 44 and the Stags topped the Leopards 191 to 85. Both CMS squads are now 3-0 in conference play.

    The CMS swimming and diving teams opened the 2012-13 SCIAC season with a pair of sweeps. The Stags and Athenas faced Whittier and Caltech at Whittier College on Saturday, December 1, in a double-dual meet. The Athenas beat Caltech 245 to 35 and topped Whittier 215 to 76. The Stags defeated Caltech 253 to 45 and Whittier 245 to 53.

    The CMS Stag and Athena swimmers hosted the University of Puget Sound November 16-17, in the two-day, 34-event, “West Coast Challenge.” The Athenas chopped down the Loggers 184 to 124, while the Stags won 203 to 99.

  • CMS Opens At UC San Diego

    The CMS swimming and diving team opened its season on Saturday, October 27 with a dual meet at UC San Diego. The NCAA Division II power Tritons topped the Athenas by a score of 256 to 44 and the Stags 234 to 66.
