The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stag and Athena Swimming and Diving teams traveled to San Antonio, Texas for a two-day dual meet versus Trinity University, Nov. 21-22. The Stags prevailed 217 to 105, while the Athenas overcame a late deficit for a 178-150 victory.
Three Athenas won multiple individual events. Sophomore Stephanie Doi won the 200 IM and 200 butterfly, with classmate Kelly Ngo taking the 100 back and 200 breaststroke events. Freshman Lauren Rosenberger won the distance events, staking first place in both the 500 yard and 1000 yard freestyles. For the Stags, senior James Stevick led the field in 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Sophomore Matthew Williams swept the 100 and 200 backstroke races.
Individual men's event winners were Timothy Storer (200 IM), Brace Young (400 IM), Cameron Whiting (200 FS), Grant Murray (100 BR), Patrick Shultz (100 FL), Austin Melody (200 BR), Marc Blumberg (200 FL) and Alex Mendoza (1000 FS). The Athenas snagged an additional first place finish in the 100 butterfly from Lorea Gwo.
CMS shined in the relay events, as well, winning five of the six contested relays.
Griffiths continued, "The Stags showed great versatility with ten different men winning individual events, plus Graham Spurzem was clutch on two winning relays."
CMS returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 6 in a SCIAC double-dual meet vs. Chapman and Occidental at Axelrood Pool. Diving will begin at 10:00 a.m. with swimming at 11:00 a.m.
