GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2016 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships get underway on March 16 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center and run from March 16-19. Seven swimmers (six Stags and one Athena) are competing at nationals. Time trials start each day at 10 a.m. and the finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. EST. Live video and live scoring is available throughout the week at the NCAA Championships. A schedule of events and other meet information can be found in the Championships Program.
The Stags qualified in four of the five relays (200 free, 400 free, 200 medley, 400 medley) and will also compete in the 800 free relay as an additional swim. In addition to competing in the relays, five of the six Stags who qualified are also competing in several individual events: junior Matthew Williams (CMC – 100 fly, 100 back, 200 back), senior Alex Poltash (CMC – 50 free, 100 free, 200 free), sophomore Noah Deer (CMC – 50 free, 100 free, 200 free), senior Matthew Valentine (HMC – 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 IM) and senior Zach Alleva (CMC – 100 breaststroke). Alleva earned a 'B' cut time in the breaststroke but gets to compete at nationals because he is also competing in relays. An athlete who qualifies for nationals on a relay team gets to swim in any event at nationals that they swam a 'B' cut time in during the course of the season. Senior Joseph Hinton (CMC) is heading to nationals as well as a relay team member. Williams is swimming in the most events for CMS (four relays and three individual).
Some of the fastest qualifying times for CMS include the following: Poltash has the 16th fastest time in the 50 free (20.51).
