NAPLES, Fla. – Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis coach Paul Settles, the 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Wilson/ITA Division III National Coach of the Year, received his Coach of the Year award on Sunday, Dec. 15. Settles, along with several others from the tennis community were honored at the 29th Annual ITA Coaches Convention held from Dec. 13-16 at the Waldorf Astoria Naples in Naples, Fla. The ITA announced its 2013 award winners in May but presents the awards at its annual banquet.

Settles, now in his 11th season as head coach of the Stags, has led the team to a 237-67 overall record. In conference matches under Settles, the Stags have been even more impressive with nine SCIAC titles and a conference record of 90-4, including eight seasons in a row without a SCIAC loss. In 2009, Settles was named West Region ITA Coach of the Year.

The Stags finished second in Division III in 2013, won 30 matches and were ranked No. 1 in the country for the first time in school history. In June, the USPTA selected Settles as its 2013 California Men's College Coach of the Year.

CMS begins its 2014 regular season on Feb. 20 with home matches against Westmont and Vanguard.
