• Four Stags Earn All-America Honors Following 2018 Season

    Late last week, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced their Division III Men’s Tennis All-America Teams. The Stags were represented with a pair of individuals and two doubles teams. Nikolai Parodi (CMC) highlighted the honors, earning All-America honors as an individual and making up half of both CMS doubles teams named. The Stags top doubles pair of Parodi and Julian Gordy (CMC) earned the national honors as well as the team of Parodi and Jake Berber (CMC). After finishing as National Runner-Up in the individual competition, Jack Katzman (CMC) capped off his freshman campaign with an All-American nod.

    Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics is ranked third in the 2017-18 Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, the program’s highest finish ever. This is the second-straight year that CMS has finished in the top-5 in the country.
  • Katzman Finishes Freshman Campaign as National Runner-Up

    Jack Katzman’s run through the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Singles Championships came to an end on Saturday morning in the National Championship Match. Katzman finished his freshman season as the runner-up to Bowdoin’s Grant Urken, who earned a straight-set victory over Katzman by a 6-3, 6-2 final.

    In just his freshman season, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ Jack Katzman (CMC) is heading to the Individual National Championship on Saturday afternoon against Bowdoin’s Grant Urken. A pair of three-set victories on Friday, moved the unseeded Katzman into the Championship Match. Katzman’s appearance in the Individual Final marks the fifth-straight year that a Stag has appeared in the match.

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team sent two individual representative through to the quarterfinals on Friday in the NCAA Division III singles competition with Nikolai Parodi (CMC) and Jack Katzman (CMC) both winning their first two matches of the tournament. The doubles team of Parodi and Julian Gordy () were also in action this afternoon, but suffered a tough, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 loss in the opening round to end the 2018 doubles slate for the Stags.
  • NCAA Run Halted By Chicago in the National Quarterfinals

    The 2018 campaign came to an end for the No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags in the National Quarterfinals on a cool and damp Friday afternoon with the Stags suffering a 5-2 loss against the University of Chicago Maroon. CMS ends their season with a 30-4 overall record, a SCIAC Championship, and their ninth-straight appearance in the National Quarterfinals.
  • Stags Slated to Begin National Championships at Home

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team is making their ninth-straight trip to the National Quarterfinals after defeating No. 15 Trinity (TX) 5-1 at the NCAA Regional Tournament last weekend. The Stags don't have to travel far, as this year's National Championships are hosted by CMS at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. The final eight teams standing include the top-five ranked teams in the country, as well as three more ranked in the top-20.

  • Men's Tennis Clinches Spot in Ninth-Straight NCAA Elite Eight

    With a 5-1 victory over the No. 15 Trinity (TX) Tigers on an overcast Saturday afternoon, the No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team advances to the NCAA Elite Eight on May 21 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. For the second time in as many days, the Stags used strong doubles play to build a 2-1 lead, and then added three straight set singles victories to secure the win. CMS, who defeated Trinity in the 2017 West Regional Final as well, has now advanced to nine straight NCAA Elite Eights dating back to 2010.
  • No. 5 Stags Top Banana Slugs, Move to Saturday's Regional Final

    The No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis opened the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon with a 5-1 victory over the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs in the Second Round. The victory moves CMS into the Regional Final on Saturday afternoon against Trinity (TX), a 5-3 winner over UT-Tyler in the other Second Round match. CMS will face Trinity for the second time this season, having defeated the No. 15 Tigers in the opening round of the ITA National Indoor Team Championships in February.
  • Stags Begin NCAA Tournament Run at Home

    The No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags earned a bye through the First Round of the NCAA Tournament thanks to a stellar 2018 season that saw CMS go 28-3 overall and win the SCIAC Championship. In addition to their First Round bye, the Stags earned hosting duties at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center for the opening weekend. As a result, CMS will welcome No. 31 UC Santa Cruz, No. 29 UT Tyler, and No. 15 Trinity (TX) to Claremont for the Second and Third Rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
  • CMS Claims 10th-Straight SCIAC All-Sports Trophy

    For the 10th-straight year and 30th time in program history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletic Department claimed the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Combined All-Sports Trophy. The Athenas earned 94 points this season and won the All-Sports Trophy on the women’s side by a 19-point margin, claiming their eighth-straight and 23rd overall. The Stags finished third in the standings on the men’s side with 65.5 points. Pomona-Pitzer won the men’s All-Sports Trophy.

    On Monday morning, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released the brackets for the Division III Men’s and Women’s Tennis National Championships. On both the men’s and women’s sides, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps has been chosen as a host site for Regional competition. In addition to hosting the National Championships at the Biszantz Family Tennis center from May 21-26, the venue will host men’s and women’s Regional play this weekend.
  • Stags Handle Sagehens, Claim 13th Consecutive Outright SCIAC Title

    The top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team claimed its 13th consecutive outright conference title with a 5-1 victory over No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer in the final of the SCIAC tournament on Saturday. CMS extended its conference win streak to 124 matches and enters the NCAA tournament with a record of 28-3 overall and 9-0 in SCIAC. NCAA selections will be made on Monday, with the first three rounds to begin on Friday.

    On Friday morning, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their end of season awards for the 2018 men's tennis season. Among the honorees were four Stags on the First Team, including the SCIAC Athlete of the Year, Nikolai Parodi (CMC). In addition to the individual accolades, CMS was named the SCIAC Sportsmanship team. The first such honor in program history.
  • Stags Battle, Advance with Sweep of Cal Lutheran

    Late in doubles play, the top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags found themselves in unfamiliar territory, facing a potential 2-1 deficit if they couldn't break back on courts No. 1 and No. 3. The Stags' top pair Nikolai Parodi (CMC) and Julian Gordy (CMC) got their break back at 3-5, and then their final break at 7-all for a tough 9-7 win. Minutes earlier, CMS' No. 3 team Robert Liu (CMC) and Daniel Park (CMC) earned a similiarly hard fought 9-8(3) tie-break win, after breaking back in the ninth game, and then trading service holds for the final seven games. The doubles sweep was the 17th for the Stags in 30 dual matches this season. CMS is now 75-15 in dual match doubles play this season.

    The Stags are currently ranked No. 5 in the country and hold the top seed heading into the SCIAC Tournament after putting together an overall record of 26-3 in the regular season and a 7-0 mark in the SCIAC. CMS will host fourth-seeded Cal Lutheran on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in the SCIAC Semifinals and would hold home-court advantage on Saturday afternoon should they advance to the Championship.

    Sophomore Nikolai Parodi (CMC) became the first player in Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Tennis history to win back-to-back Ojai Division III singles and doubles titles on Sunday. Parodi defeated Pomona-Pitzer's Jed Kronenberg 6-2, 6-0 in the singles championship match, and then later paired with junior Julian Gordy (CMC) to capture the doubles crown. Parodi and Gordy defeated Caltech's Varun Shanker and James Wei 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3. Parodi and Gordy extend the streak of Stags singles and doubles titles at Ojai to five.
  • Stags Claim SCIAC Regular Season After Pair of Saturday Wins

    The No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team wrapped up their regular season dual slate on Saturday with a pair of victories. In the morning, the Stags went on the road and defeated the No. 34 Caltech Beavers by an 8-1 final before handling NCAA Division II UC San Diego 6-3 at home in the afternoon. The victory over Caltech runs their SCIAC record to a perfect 7-0, and the Stags are guaranteed home court advantage in the SCIAC tournament which begins on Friday, May 4.

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team stayed hot with a pair of victories on Saturday including a 9-0 sweep of Cal Lutheran and an 8-1 victory over Hope International University. The victory over Cal Lutheran clinches the Stags at least a share of the SCIAC Championship, their 26th in program history. CMS is now 6-0 in conference play and 24-3 overall.
  • Stags Control Sixth Street, Sweep Sagehens

    In a Sixth Street rivalry match, the No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team blanked the No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens 9-0 on Thursday night at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. The Stags turned in their most dominant doubles sweep of the season against a ranked team, and then won four of six singles matches in straight sets to complete the shutout. It was the Stags' first shutout against the Sagehens since the 2014 SCIAC Tournament championship match. CMS improves to 22-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
  • No. 6 Stags Sweep No. 8 Golden Gusties and Poets on Perfect Saturday

    The No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team opened a Saturday doubleheader with a 9-0 victory over the No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus Golden Gusties at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. CMS followed up their sweep from the morning with another 9-0 victory in the afternoon, topping SCIAC foe Whittier in the second-half of their doubleheader. The Stags stayed perfect in eight doubles matches played in three duals over two days, and improve their season dual match doubles record to a collective 59-13.
  • Stags Pick Up 7-2 Road Win Against No. 13 Redlands

    The No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis defeated a short-handed Redlands squad on Friday, improving to 3-0 in SCIAC and 19-3 overall. Playing with only five players, the host Bulldogs were forced to forfeit matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. CMS capitalized on the 2-0 advantage, sweeping the remaining two doubles positions before taking three straight-set singles matches at Nos. 3-5.
  • 8-1 Triumph Over No. 3 Middlebury Launches CMS Back into the Top 5

    No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis earned a hard fought 8-1 win over No. 3 Middlebury in a rematch of the 2017 NCAA team semifinal. CMS needed to come back from a 6-2 deficit and two service breaks at No. 3 doubles in order to take a 2-1 lead into singles. The Stags showed their toughness in singles by winning two three-setters, three of four tie-breaks, and saving two match points en route to a sweep of all six positions.

CMS out-dueled No. 34 UC Santa Cruz 6-3 in a morning match, before earning a 9-0 victory over Chapman in the afternoon session.

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team suffered its third loss of the season on Tuesday night at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, a 5-4 thriller to No. 11 Williams College. Despite two wins each from junior captain Julian Gordy (CMC) and sophomore Nikolai Parodi (CMC), the Stags couldn't overcome a 2-1 deficit after the doubles, nor could they rally from 4-1 down to overtake the Ephs.

    The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team earned a pair of victories over nationally-ranked teams on Saturday, defeating No. 17 Tufts University 7-2 and No. 34 George Fox University 8-1. On the day, the Stags went 11-1 in singles play en route to a pair of comfortable victories. The two victories improves the Stags to 15-2 on the season. CMS will host the No. 11 Williams Ephs at 5:00 p.m on Tuesday in their next clash against a nationally ranked team.

    The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team took care of the No. 6 Amherst Mammoths on Saturday afternoon, earning their third-straight 9-0 victory in as many days. The Stags swept their way through three doubles matches before taking all six singles contests to earn their seventh victory over a ranked team this season.
  • Stags Run Away from Thoroughbreds and Lyons in Sweeps

    The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team turned in a pair of sweeps in non-conference matches on Thursday. CMS opened Thursday with a dominating 9-0 victory over Wheaton College (MA) before cruising to another 9-0 victory over the No. 26 Skidmore Thoroughbreds. Against the Lyons, the Stags dropped just nine games across six singles matches en route to the convincing victory. Their match against Skidmore was more of the same, with CMS earning straight-set victories in all six singles matches.
