UPLAND, Calif. – In its second and final fall tournament, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team finished in second place at the two-round CMS Invite held on Oct. 3-4 at Upland Hills Golf Course. CMS (636) finished eight strokes behind tournament winner Cal Lutheran (628). Pomona-Pitzer (643) came in third while Occidental (676) and Marymount (704) finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.

After the first round score of 322, CMS trailed Pomona-Pitzer by seven strokes for first place and Cal Lutheran by four strokes for second place. In the second round, CMS improved on its score from the previous day by eight strokes with a 314, the second-lowest round of the tournament for any team. A big drop off by Pomona-Pitzer in the second round combined with improved play by CMS and Cal Lutheran, led to the shakeup on the leaderboard on the second day.

Freshman Mary Bryan Owen (CMC) finished in third place with an 11-over par, 151 on the par-70 course, just two strokes behind Cal Lutheran's McKay Weiler who won the event. Mary Bryan Owen shot a 5-over 75 in the first round which was the lowest round of the day and third-lowest of the tournament. She followed her 75 up with 76 in the second round.

Also in the top-10 for CMS were junior Taylor Kain-Godoy (CMC) and freshman Kelly Ransom (CMC) who finished tied for eighth and 10th, respectively. Kain-Godoy had a score of 161 during the tournament while Ransom closed her tournament out just one shot behind her teammate.

Sophomore Maya Bhat (CMC), freshman Nathalie Limandibhratha, senior Caroline Belmont (CMC) and sophomore Rosie Kepple (SCR) also competed for the Athenas. Bhat finished in 13th place, Limandibhratha in 18th, Belmont tied for 19th and Kepple ended her weekend in 28th.

CMS' regular season begins on Feb. 14 in the Walker Cup at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.
