PASADENA, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team is represented by four athletes on the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) teams, highlighted by freshman Kelly Ransom (CMC) earning Newcomer of the Year. Ransom is joined by freshman Mary Bryan Owen (CMC) and sophomores Margaret Loncki (CMC) and Maya Bhat (CMC), all on the Second Team.
Ransom finished second in the SCIAC with an average score of 78.29 over the seven rounds in conference play. She had two third place finishes during the regular season and rounded out the year in fourth place in the Championships shooting a 75 on the final day. She also had the low round on the second day of SCIAC #2 at South Hills Country Club. In addition to being Newcomer of the Year, Ransom was also honored on the First Team.
Loncki earns her second all-conference award after being named to the First Team in 2015. She came in at eighth in scoring average with 81.29 over the conference season. Her highest finish was at SCIAC #2, staying consistent between both days on the course for fifth place.
Owen competed in five of the seven rounds with the Athenas after an injury kept her out of SCIAC #1 and ended up at No. 11 in SCIAC averaging 81.60 strokes in conference play. Similar to Ransom, Owen improved the last day of the Championships posting a 76 for a ninth place finish.
Finally, Bhat went from 17th and 20th place finishes in the first two SCIAC events to improving each day at the Championships, ultimately ending up in fifth place at Oak Valley Golf Club. She ranks 14th in the conference, averaging 83.14 strokes per round.
