PRESCOTT, Ariz. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team finished in third place at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Co-Ed Invitational on Tuesday, edging SCIAC rival Whittier by one stroke over the 54-hole event.

Biola finished in first place with a three-round score of 910 (+46), winning by 17 shots over host Embry-Riddle. CMS, which shot a 312 on Tuesday compared to 319 for Whittier, ended up with a 955, slipping past the Poets' 956 after the Poets held a 19-shot lead after the first round.

Sophomore Camille Simon was the top individual finisher for the Athenas after climbing six spots on Tuesday with a final-round even-par 72 to move from 12th into a tie for sixth. Freshman Tiffany Hu shot a 75 in her round on Tuesday to move up into the top 10, jumping three spots into a tie for ninth overall.

Junior Eunice Song was the third-place finisher for the Athenas with a three-round 246, finishing tied for 17th overall. Junior Taylor Hughes was one shot behind with a 247 and freshman Madeline Brown was one shot behind her with a 248.

Simon had a steady round with 12 pars and three birdies, closing out with pars on the 17th and 18th holes to card her 72. Hu, meanwhile, started fast on the front nine with birdies on the second and fifth to shoot a 34 on the front nine. CMS had a more substantial lead over Whittier coming down the stretch, but the Poets shot an even par on the 17th and 18th while the Athenas were +5 to nearly close the gap.

The Embry-Riddle Invitational concludes the fall schedule for the defending national champion Athenas, who will return to action in February, when they compete in the Shootout at Arrowhead on Feb. 2-3, and then at the first SCIAC regular season tournament on Feb. 16-17 at Los Serranos.
