CLAREMONT, Calif. – Over the last two matches prior to its 18-6 win over on Aurora on March 8, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team had shown it can win low-scoring, defensive games. The Athenas displayed against Aurora, that their offense is formidable as well, as they scored the first seven goals of the game en route to the team's fourth win in a row.
During the 7-0 run over the first 14-plus minutes of the match, six different players scored goals for CMS (4-1, 3-1 SCIAC). Ahead 5-0, sophomore attacker Kendall Greenberg (CMC) scored back-to-back goals roughly two minutes apart to cap CMS' 7-0 run with 15:50 left in the first half. Taylor Arcivar ended the scoring drought for Aurora 21 seconds later. Greenberg added her third goal of the half, off of an assist from senior Isabel Laterzo (CMC) to make it 10-1 at the 11:10 mark. CMS went into halftime ahead 13-2.
The first eight minutes of the second half saw CMS score four of five goals. Aurora did score three-straight goals, the last of which narrowed the CMS lead to 17-6 with 10:06 remaining, but by then, CMS had the match in control.
CMS had an advantage in every major statistical category in the game, most noticeably, 28-10 in shot attempts.
Freshman goalie Nicole Greenberg (SCR) came away with three saves for CMS. Offensively, Kendall Greenberg scored a team-high three goals and four other Athenas had a multi-goal game. Rachel Cochran and Kenny Hughes scored two goals apiece for Aurora.
CMS continues its six-match stretch of home non-conference games against Montclair St. on March 11 at 7 p.m.
