CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team earned a dominant shutout victory at home with an 18-0 rout of Kalamazoo College.
Sophomore Lauren Clubb (CMC) netted the first goal for CMS just over a minute in on a free position shot. The Athenas went on to score six goals in the game's first six minutes, including two from freshman Corie Hack (CMC).
Hack completed her hat trick three minutes later to put CMS up 7-0 and has now scored three or more goals in five games this season.
The offense did not stop, however as six Athenas combined to score the next seven goals for an insurmountable 16-0 halftime lead.
Although game play slowed down in the second half, CMS dominated possession time and did not allow the Hornets to do much of anything when they had the ball.
The Hornets first shot attempt of the game came with 23 seconds remaining as scoring leader Anika Sproull rang one off the post.
With the 18-0 victory, CMS earned its seventh home win and second shutout of the year after having previously blanked Puget Sound 20-0 on March 17.
Hack and Hill tied for the team lead in points (four) and CMS outshot Kalamazoo 28-1.
Katie Johnson made five saves in goal for the Hornets.
The 8-2 (3-1 SCIAC) Athenas are currently on a four game winning streak and have outscored their opponents 67-13 throughout that stretch.
The rest of the 2016 schedule will be against conference opponents for CMS, which will next travel to Occidental on April 6.
