CLAREMONT, Calif. – Down by two scores late in the second half, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team's comeback fell short as Pomona-Pitzer held on for a 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon at Pomona-Pitzer's soccer field. The loss dropped CMS to 5-7-3 overall and 4-4-2 in SCIAC play which puts them in fourth place.

Pomona-Pitzer's Katie Tao scored the first goal of the match just seconds before halftime from 40-yards out to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 advantage. Just over 30 minutes later, Pomona-Pitzer pushed its lead to 2-0 on a goal by Julia Dohner in the 77th minute.

Junior F Isabel Lester got CMS on the board in the 81st minute off a rebound on a shot by freshman M Makella Brems. The Athenas got two more shots off in the final nine minutes in an attempt to tie the game but one shot went high and the other shot went wide.

Next up for the Athenas is a road match at Cal Lutheran (Oct. 23).
