Malott, Holman Named First-Team All-SCIAC for CMS Women's Soccer; Talmi on Second Team

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior midfielder Sarah Malott and junior midfielder Rhiann Holman were named first-team All-SCIAC for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team, while senior defender Sydney Talmi was chosen to the second team in a vote of the league's coaches, the conference announced today.

Holman picks up first-team All-SCIAC honors for the second year in a row, after leading the Athenas in scoring this season, finishing with a 10 goals and three assists. She had the game-winning goal in three conference games, including the win at Redlands and a 1-0 win over Chapman. She also had a goal and an assist in a 2-1 overtime road win at La Verne, picking up the game-winning assist on a through ball to Kira Favakeh in the overtime session. Her 10 goals and 23 points both led the SCIAC this season.

Malott had a key role for the Athenas as a defensive midfielder this season, starting all 17 games and helping CMS hold opponents to only 0.55 goals per game. The Athenas picked up 11 shutouts on the year, and help opponents to only two goals over the final nine games of the season. Malott also contributed a pair of assists on the year, including a key one in a 2-0 win over first-place Redlands in the final week of the regular season to keep CMS in the playoff picture.

Talmi was honored on the postseason SCIAC teams for the first time, picking up second-team honors after helping the Athenas to their impressive defensive numbers. A starting center back, Talmi missed three straight conference games with an injury early in the year, including a 1-0 loss to Cal Lutheran and a 3-1 loss to Redlands. After coming back, she helped solidify a defensive unit that picked up seven shutouts in its next eight games.

CMS finished the year with an 8-5-4 record and a 6-4-4 mark in conference, finishing fifth and just missing the SCIAC Tournament on the last day of the regular season.
