Wins Over Ranked Opponents In Singles Help No. 2 CMS Take Down No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team capped off a five-win week with a 7-2 win over cross-street rival and 12th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. CMS is now 19-0 and 3-0 in SCIAC.

Wins in singles by senior Kristin Lim and junior Abby Hayley over ranked opponents in the top two spots highlighted the match for CMS. Kristin Lim defeated
Samantha Chao 6-4, 6-1 while Hayley defeated Jamie Solomon 7-6 (1), 6-2. Chao and Solomon are the 50th the 30th ranked singles players in Division III, respectively.

Pomona-Pitzer's Samantha Mae Coyuito defeated freshman Caroline Ward 6-4, 7-6 (4) in No. 3 singles while Marie Fleming defeated junior Crystal Lim 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 in the fourth position. Sophomore Sarah Kukino and junior Chloe Dobbert added wins for CMS in singles.

CMS took all three doubles points as the closest match was an 8-6 win by Crystal Lim and Ward in No. 2 doubles over Solomon and Fleming. Kristin Lim and Hayley won 8-4 in No. 1 doubles as did Dobbert and Kukino in No. 3 doubles.

Next up for CMS is a home match vs. Cal Lutheran on Friday, April 5, at 2 p.m.
