Smooth Sailing for CMS as Women's Tennis Tops Hawks and Tigers

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 3 Athenas cruised their way to a pair of 9-0 sweeps on Friday. First the Athenas took care of San Diego Christian this afternoon before disposing of Colorado College under the lights of the Biszantz Family Tennis Center to complete Friday's doubleheader.

Against San Diego Christian, CMS dropped a total of 22 games across the nine matches en route to the sweep. CMS was even better in their second match of the day, dropping just 15 games against the Tigers.

The Athenas opened the match against the Hawks with three doubles sweeps. At No. 1 doubles, Catherine Allen (SC) and Caroline Cox (CMC) dropped just one game, winning their match 8-1. The teams of Kyla Scott (HMC)/Juliette Martin (HMC) and Lindsay Brown (CMC)/Lauren Yamagami (CMC) won their matches by identical 8-2 scores.

Rebecca Berger (CMC) and Cox were both perfect in singles play. Berger swept her No. 5 singles match, 6-0, 6-0 and Cox forced her opponent to retire in the No. 4 match with the score 6-0, 3-0 in favor of Cox.

The nightcap against the Tigers was more of the same from the Athenas. CMS was dominate in doubles play with Brown/Nicole Tan (CMC) teaming up to win the No. 1 match 8-1. Madison Shea (CMC) and Jessie Cruz (CMC) claimed the No. 3 doubles by also dropping just one game.

In singles play, Tan and Anastasia Bryan-Ajania (SC) won the top two singles matches with duplicate scores of 6-2, 6-2. Somehow the Athenas were even more dominate in the other four singles matches. Cruz (No. 3 singles) and Shea (No. 4 singles) each won their matches 6-0, 6-0 while Lauren Yamagami (CMC) and Juliette Martin rounded out singles play with victories of 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches, respectively.

Overall, the Athenas used all 11 players on their roster during Friday's matches. Through five matches on the season, CMS owns a 24-6 record in singles play and a 14-1 mark in doubles matches.

With the two victories, the Athenas move to 5-0 on the season and will next take the court on Friday, Feb. 23 when they travel to Chapman at 4:00 p.m.
