CLAREMONT, Calif.— The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team took a commanding lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they defeated the California Institute of Technology 14-2 at Axelrood Pool Wednesday night.

In the first quarter CMS traded goals with Cal Tech until sophomore Rose Koper broke the 2-2 at the 2:42 mark, giving the Athenas the lead for good. This would be all Taylor Basso and Allison Hu would need as they controlled the goal, shutting out Cal Tech for the remainder of the match.

After taking a 7-2 lead at halftime, CMS set the tone in both the third and fourth quarters with Emily Gran winning the sprint followed quickly by two of junior Candace Filippelli's four goals.

Eight Athenas scored on the night with Kelly Davis, Haley Conner, and Jeanne Kelber having two apiece.

The victory sets up a showdown with California Lutheran University Saturday at Axelrood Pool beginning at 11 AM.
